ISC West 2022-Recap

In video surveillance, integrations, access control

While this year’s ISC West had a smaller footprint and attendance than in years past, the show overall still was energetic and upbeat. The consensus from those we spoke to felt that things were finally getting back to normal.

There were little to no new ground-breaking technologies presented at the show; most exhibitors were using their time to reconnect rather than launch their greatest new advancements. There were, however, a couple of notable solutions we’d like to highlight.

      mobile credentials

    MOBILE CREDENTIALING

Some of our customers have been reluctant to introduce mobile credentialing for access control. The negative feedback we received was regarding the four steps required to open the door.

    1. a user gets their phone out
    2. unlock the phone
    3. open the mobile credentialing app
    4. and either make a gesture with the phone or press a button in the app

Security and convenience are now possible with the technology from OpenPath. Mobile credentialing has been streamlined with their “hand wave” feature.  A user can simply walk up to a reader and wave their hand. The reader will then authenticate and allow entry as long as the app is installed on their phone.

The reader can be programmed to work within a 30’ range, depending on the specific security needs of the entry point. Providing a guest pass via text is also another key benefit for visitor management.  This streamlined process eliminates the need for guests to download the app to gain entry. Multifactor authentication using the phone’s built-in biometric functions provides even further layers of security without having to purchase costly equipment.

    COMPACT DOOR OPERATOR

The ISC “Best New Product” award went to the LCN compact door operator. This new compact door operator is a game-changer, making touchless access a reality.  Because it runs on 24 Volts DC, LCN’s door operator doesn’t require a high voltage circuit, significantly reducing installation costs. This will allow for more openings to be completely contactless removing the need to grab the door handle to gain entry.
